Retro-XP-PC #1:

Perhaps the most powerful Windows XP PC in the world

After the successful RetroBook project, it was only natural that a desktop PC with exaggerated specifications would follow, but unlike the notebooks, it would really be at the limit in every respect. I had had this project in mind for quite some time, but the prices for individual components had been quite high for a long time. After all, this is a “DIY project,” so you can take your time buying the parts at good prices.

The whole thing was preceded by lengthy research into what fits together and what doesn’t.

What does “limit” mean in the case of Windows XP?

Well, Windows XP has to run with the best hardware possible. The goal is to achieve the highest possible official compatibility.

Technically, the whole thing should run on an Intel platform again, as this offers the best performance per watt in the relevant period, as was already the case with the RetroBooks. Of course, everything should be overclockable. The graphics should also come from Nvidia again, partly due to driver stability.

As before, the construction of this computer is divided into steps according to components, starting with the choice of processor, which follows now.

Enjoy this retro series!
