From the outset, I wanted a 4U case to ensure sufficient space. After deciding on a 4U-4129-L from Inter-Tech (called Rosewill outside of Europe)* and receiving it, I realized that the CPU cooler would not quite fit inside. Annoying.
Unusually for me, I opted for the most drastic solution: cutting the cooler out of the cover. This is only acceptable to me because there will be a shelf directly above the server, so the slight protrusion is not a problem.
Otherwise, I didn’t use any of the supplied fans with 4-pin Molex connectors and instead used Pure Wings 2 from BeQuiet* – two 120 mm in the front, three 120 mm in the middle, and two 80 mm in the back.
