<p class="wp-block-paragraph">VMware offers a really good tool for easily creating virtual machines from real, existing PCs: <strong><a href="https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/389242/vmware-vcenter-converter-download.html" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="external noopener noreferrer">VMware vCenter Converter</a></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Now (since the takeover by Broadcom), this tool can only be downloaded after registering for free. But it&#8217;s worth it—I&#8217;ve used it several times to back up entire systems as VMs, and it has always worked well so far. Alternatively, you can download version 6.6.0 directly <strong><a href="https://jcccdata.mednet.ucla.edu/converter/VMware-Converter-Client.exe" data-wpel-link="external" target="_blank" rel="external noopener noreferrer">here</a></strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Under certain circumstances, a lot of storage space is required at the destination, as much as is installed in the system to be backed up, and this can quickly reach terabyte levels. This works best with a connected external SSD or HDD.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After conversion, the finished VM can then be started with VMware Workstation, preferably the latest version.</p>
